QoS Announcements: Cisco's Traffic Packet Optimization

  
Cisco added a new, licensed feature, Traffic Packet Optimization, (product page - here; PDF - here) to the [Starent] ASR-5000 GGSN, providing clientless optimization for TCP and HTTP traffic.

"Optimization is performed by splitting the TCP and HTTP connections between client and server using a proxy. The TCP and HTTP proxies are implemented as a Cisco® In-Line Service in the Cisco ASR 5000 Series platform. Network operators can expect a 30 to 50 percent reduction in noncompressed HTTP traffic and a 10 percent reduction in the downlink data. This reduction can go as high as 25 percent (see Figure below)."
