Cisco CTO on Challenges Facing Mobile Video Providers

Ken Morse, chief technology officer for Cisco’s Service Provider Video Technology Group (former Scientific Atlanta), was interviewed to Chris Tribbey from Home Media Magazine.

See "Six Questions: Cisco Chief Technology Officer Ken Morse" - here.

The 6th question was:

"What are the challenges facing mobile video providers, and how is Cisco helping to better the delivery of mobile video?"

Morse: "Global mobile data traffic will increase 39 times from 2009 to 2014 (108% compound annual growth rate) according to Cisco’s Visual Networking Index (VNI), and mobile video is expected to be 66% of global mobile data traffic by 2014. Mobile service providers are looking to find ways to increase their revenue through tiered services, turbo delivery of services, video on demand, etc. We are working to help our customers address challenges for growth, bandwidth consumption and consumer demand for video. Through our acquisition of Starent Networks, Cisco provides our customers with a comprehensive IP mobile multimedia architecture that reduces the cost of video transport over mobile networks potentially up to 50% while enabling the delivery of new revenue from new business models such as third-party advertising, tiered service pricing and business partnerships."
